How Lemonade Began
I started Lemon Aid when I was 6 years old, and Hurricane Katrina hit Louisiana and Mississippi. Thousands of people, including my Aunt Winnie, lost their homes. Many people lost everything they'd ever known, and I wanted to help them.
Two weeks later when my village held its annual Cow Harbor Day parade and festival, thousands of people came to join the celebration. Our house is right on the parade route, so I decided to have a lemonade stand to raise money for the people affected by Katrina.
I raised more than $200 and sold out of lemonade.
The next year I raised money for the NICU where my twin brothers spent the first two months of their lives. And the year after that I helped my Dad raise money for the American Cancer Society after my Grandma and three of my Aunts were all diagnosed with different cancers in a two year period.
The next winter I saw the "Climate Change" exhibit at the American Museum of Natural History, and learned how important it is for us to work together to save the Earth. So I decided to use Lemon Aid to raise money for organzations working to save our planet.
Now I have my Lemon Aid stand in front of my house for the Memorial Day and Cow Harbor Day parades every year, so I can raise money to help save the Earth. I ask people to pay whatever they'd like as their donation. I've also started selling hot chocolate in the winter at local sledding hill. And this year my mom and I made lemon scented soaps to sell as well!
So far I've raised more than $6,000 for lots of charities and I plan to keep it up. There are so many ways we can help save the Earth. Lemon Aid is my way to help ... one cup at a time.
