The Charities Lemon Aid Believes In

My first Lemon Aid stand helped the people hit by Hurricane Katrina by making a contribution to the American Red Cross.

Since then I've raised money for lots of causes.  Here are some organizations that are helping the Earth ... and there are so many more!

The American Museum of Natural History
My family has a membership and we go visit all the time.  You can go there to see the exhibits, and learn lots of things about animals and the Earth and space.  They have gift shops with cool things and great books.  And they do lots of very important work for nature, animals and the Earth.

National Wildlife Federation
In 2008 my Aunt Alina gave me the perfect Christmas present.  She sent me a certificate saying that I had symbolically adopted a polar bear through the NWF!  Now she does it every year with a different animal!  You can adopt lots of different animals or subscribe to some great magazines.  I get "National Geographic Kids" and my brothers get "Ranger Rick".  Littler kids can get "Your Big Backyard".  We learn a lot about animals and nature and saving the Earth.

World Wildlife Fund
WWF is trying to create a world where people live in harmony with nature.  I really like that thought.  It makes me think of the Native American Indians, and how they respect the land and the animals.  We all need to think that way to save the Earth

Heifer International
Heifer is saving the Earth by teaching people how to farm responsibly.  They also help people live better by giving them animals and teaching them how to raise them.  They're working to end hunger and poverty, and teaching people to care for the Earth.

The Arbor Day Foundation
"We inspire people to plant, nurture and celebrate trees."  They certainly inspired me.  Explore their website to learn all about how important trees are to the environment and to people.  And learn how you can help trees on the Earth.  You can also buy trees or join the Arbor Day Foundation (you get 10 free trees to plant when you join!) or plant a tree in honor of someone else.

**********

These organizations don't work to save the Earth, but they've helped people I know and love so I wanted to let you know about them.

The March of Dimes
My little brothers were born almost three months early.  The March of Dimes helps find ways to help premature babies like my brothers, and my parents say my brothers are okay because of the March of Dimes.

The Little Angel Fund
The Little Angel Fund at Stony Brook University Hospital was started by a family whose premature baby died.  In her memory they help other families at the hospital who have premature babies.  My brothers were there for almost two months, so they helped our family a lot.

Save the Children
When the tsunami hit in Asia, when Myanmar had a typhoon, when China and Haiti had earthquakes, and when Hurricane Ike hit the Gulf Coast many children lost everything they ever knew.  So I used my Lemon Aid stand to raise money for Save the Children's special disaster funds to help children going through these disasters.

The American Cancer Society
Many people in my life have cancer.  My grandma, three Aunts, and my friend's mom.  They're all doing well, but not everyone is so lucky.  My Dad and I raise money for the American Cancer Society by riding our bicycles, so maybe one day there won't be any more cancer.

Connor's Army and Connor's Army Junior
My Dad and I started these organizations to raise money to fight cancer.  The first year we raised almost $13,000 dollars.  Now we're making plans for a cross country ride to raise $50,000!

I hope you learn more about these charities by going to their web-sites and maybe making a donation.
