Did You Know That ...

... every 6 hours a plant species disappears, every hour an animal species becomes extinct, and every minute an acre of rainforest is lost?

... global warming is the single most dangerous issue for all animals, including humans?

... the United States is responsible for 30.3% of the world's carbon emissions?

My name is Sarah Connor.  I'm 11-years-old and ever since I was 9, Lemon Aid has been my way to help save the Earth.

I have a lemonade stand outside my house twice a year for our village's Cow Harbor Day Parade and Memorial Day Parade.  All the money I raise gets donated to organizations helping the Earth.  So far I've raised more than $6,000 for different causes.

NOW YOU CAN HELP, TOO!

Write a Letter
I wrote a letter to President Obama about climate change because it's very important for the leaders of the world to do something about global warming.

When we kids are grown up it will be too late, and we need to let world leaders know that they have to pay attention to the scientists.

So go to the Write a Letter page and pick out a world leader.  If you care about saving the rainforest write to the President of Brazil, if you want to stop global warming write to the President of China or the United States, if you're concerned about the disappearing coral reefs write to the President of Australia.  Figure out how you want to save the Earth and pick the best leader to write to.  Then write a letter!

(If you send me a copy of your letter, I'll put it on the web-site.)

Save the Trees
I'm helping to plant new trees in my home town and you can, too.  Go to Save Main Street to learn all about my project in Northport, and then start your own campaign to Save the Trees!

The Arbor Day Foundation can give you all sorts of great advice about choosing and planting trees, and will even send you free trees when you join.

Have a "Save the Earth" Party
For my 8th birthday I had a "Save the Earth" party.  I met my friends in the park and we cleaned it up.  We were amazed at how much garbage we got even though the park looked so clean.  Then we found natural objects to make musical instruments and had a scavenger hunt that taught us about nature.  It was really fun and we helped the Earth at the same time!

Make a Donation
So many people are working to help animals or save the rainforests or teach about recycling or stop global warming.  There's sure to be something you believe in, and even a small donation can help make a difference.

Adopt an Endangered Animal
For Christmas the past few years my Aunt Alina has given me the best present ever.  The first year she adopted a polar bear for me, then a baby harp seal, and this year it was a tiger!  With each adoption I got a certificate with my name on it that I framed and keep on my dresser.  And I know that it's going to help polar bears, seals, tigers and other endangered animals.  You can adopt one for yourself or someone else - I adopted a wolf for one of my friends who loves them.  Or you can ask for it as a present for your birthday!

Volunteer
There are lots of great organizations working to save the Earth that need your help, even plenty in your own town.  You may not have money to make a donation, but you can always give your time.  And I bet your parents would like to help, too!

Recycle
One of the easiest things you can do to save the Earth, and it doesn't cost you anything or take a lot of your time!  Teach your parents how to recycle in your house or start a recycling program in your school like I did, and you'll be helping to save the Earth all the time, every day.

We may be small, but together we can make a big difference!

How I Started

On April 23rd I received the Environmental Quality Award from the US Environmental Protection Agency ... the only child ever to be honored!  It was amazing!

Check out the awards ceremony here!
!!!NEWS FLASH!!!

This May I hand-delivered almost 200 letters from Northport Middle School students to the offices of New York's Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Senator Chuck Schumer.  The letters talked about concerns like recycling, global warming, endangered animals, litter, water pollution, air pollution, and lots of other things.  They were addressed to both Senators, President Obama, and Congressional Representatives; and they urged them to take action to help save the planet for the next generation - that's us!

Go to my "Write a  Letter" page and see how you can write to world leaders and help our campaign to help save the earth!
